OK! We've gotten back home and I thought I'll post some of my feelings and thoughts about MFA here.

First of all, huge thanks to all Russian players for making this trip so awesome and so memorable! Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful, and I was very touched by all the attention.

About the event itself, I was there only on sunday, so I can't speak of the other days. At the beginning of the day there was the annoying problem with the laggy TVs, but the organisation did an exemplary job and promptly got lagless CRT TVs for the 3S and GG tournaments. The tournaments were run swiftly and efficiently, and despite the somewhat tight schedule (in my opinion), everything was finished in time.

The level of play was, to me, very surprising and very good. I didn't quite know what to expect, because there weren't a lot of very recent match videos from Russia, and skill is difficult to determine from match videos anyway.

I'm not very strong in Tekken, so I didn't manage to qualify. I hope entomo will post more about that game, so I'm gonna talk about 3S and GG.

In Third Strike, I only got in a couple of casuals before the tournament, but from the first match it was clear that there were several very good players entering. It was also nice to see a couple of the not so common characters. I think at least two Uriens, an Alex and even a Twelve!

I hadn't had any 3S practice, so regrettably I think I played pretty badly. I think I missed every single one of my combos, failed tackles, failed Aegis Reflectors and in general didn't play very well. I still managed to win my qualification pool, but then in the playoffs I had to play not one but two Urien mirror matches! Also, for some reason I still don't quite know, my Hori stick broke after the 3S qualifications, but luckily I was able to borrow a stick and was able to continue.

I have never played against an another Urien before, so I had no clue how I should play. Despite dropping all of my combos again and jumping into MP spheres, I think I managed at least a small struggle, so I didn't give totally free wins. :P I had my opportunity to win in the second match when I threw my opponent into the corner. I tried to do an LP aegis after, but I was pretty heartbroken when I failed the input and got superjump j.lp instead. Oh well. :P

Guilty Gear is my main game, so that was what I was most excited about. The trip got off to a great start when we had a session of casuals with Raven, goga, Summoner, Minagushi and A.T. I think I played OK, but I was outclassed by Raven and goga, and lost much more than I won. You guys played very smart and had excellent execution skills. I was especially awed by goga, who pulled off difficult Chipp combos nearly every time. Also, Raven reversal backdashed out of my unblockables very well. The other guys didn't know how to break Eddie's stuff so well, so I had an easier time against them. Everyone's combo execution was on point, however (except mine :P). Great matches and great people!

I got some casuals in before the tournament too, though not as much as I would have liked. I can't remember the nicks of the people I played against, so it would be nice if you'd say hi here! I remember at least a Faust player who I played a couple of tight matches against, and a girl who played Testament.

As for the tournament, I think we had a great team, and I thought that we had good chances of doing well. Minagushi and Llanowar both did a great job, both destroying teams or their own. I think I was the weak link in the chain, and when it was my turn to play, I was super nervous and played like crap. The guys who beat me, NebaGlubina and Xed, you played cautiously and well and didn't do any panic moves I could have punished. I couldn't get my game together, and you guys played calm and better than me. You deserved to win, but I'll get my revenge next time! :) Still, I'm happy that in the tournament I won against Lan, my online nemesis! Until the next tournament, I'm looking forward to playing rematches against all of you guys online when I get my stick repaired! Be on the lookout for 'Astra', which is my online nick!

I'd also like to say a couple of words to all the players I remember from the weekend. If I've forgotten someone, please post and let me know!

Sirius - You were a cool guy, I enjoyed talking to you and playing with you! Hopefully my Bryan gave you at least some trouble. :) Too bad we didn't finish that Streets of Rage game, we'll have to play it again next time!

SineMan - I was sorry to hear about that thing with the Guitar Hero. I also really enjoyed our games, even if I wasn't much of an opponent. I'll try to get stronger until the next time!

Tango - I really had no idea what to do against Baek, you totally outplayed me. All my moves whiffed and I got launched. Still, I think I managed to squeeze out one win at least. :)

Groza - I'm sorry I didn't remember your nickname at first, but I remember playing against your Lei! I couldn't attack at all! You were always on the ground or doing some move I've never seen before, and I had no idea what I was supposed to do. It was like all of my moves with Bryan would lose or whiff!

Sergei - I couldn't really hold a candle to your Devil Jin. I always ended up against the wall and then I tried something stupid and would die. I hope I'll be much stronger next time, so I can at least give you a decent fight!

NebaGlubina - I went into our tournament match somewhat confident because I had some experience in the matchup, even if I hate playing that matchup. I was hoping you'd be trigger happy with counters, but you kept your head cool and didn't fall for my traps. On top of that, you played better than me, avoided my shadow and defeated my anti-airs. Very well played, you earned the win!

Xed - I had no idea how to play against Ky in AC, and in addition I was a nervous wreck when I had to play you. You kept me out very well, and totally broke down my game, I didn't get any of my good stuff going. Very well played! Hopefully we can have rematches online so I can figure out how to beat your Ky!

Lan - I enjoyed our online matches, which I think were pretty even. Luckily, I had some AC Jam experience and patiently blocked most of your FB hyappo shinshou attempts. I don't think I managed to do any good combos though. :P I won this time, but I hope the battle will continue on the Internet!

Summoner - You played a solid ABA, and on keyboard, which was very impressive! You did your combos very well, and I had large difficulties defending against your j.H approaches. I think if you vary your pressure game a bit more and work on your bursting, you will be very strong in the future!

Minagushi - Slayer ownage and awesome job in the tournament! You had strong combo skills, and some very nice throw and crossover setups. I fell for that dust a bit too many times, but I can't blame you for doing it if I keep eating it. :P I think you too should burst a bit more carefully. Also, I don't think I saw you doing a single Dead on Time combo! Learn how to use that move, it's super scary! Anti-air 2S, 6H, Dead on Time FRC = surprise death combo!

A.T - I'm sorry about my casuals after the GG tournament. I was feeling a bit down after losing in the tournament, and didn't play 100%. Your Jam definitely has potential! Learn to watch out for Eddie's and Testament's bullshit moves!

Llanowar - That strong Baiken player from the eastern countries! Great job in the tournament, I'm sorry I let you guys down! Next time, I will return twice stronger and at least four times more calm, so I can actually play properly in tournament matches. :P Too bad we didn't get to play Soul Calibur, maybe next time!

Kappa - Big thanks for being our tour guide on saturday! It was cool to see some sights in Moscow, and not just stay inside and play games all the time. :) I hope you enjoyed walking and talking with us, because I sure did!

Belial - I saw some of your Bryan matches on entomo's laptop on our train ride home. Awesome stuff! Too bad I didn't get to play with you, I would've loved to try playing Soul Calibur against you, even if I would've been annihilated. :P Also, thanks for the shrimp salad!

Raven & goga - What can I say, guys. Wow, just wow! You showed me how strong Russian GG really is, and you totally swept the floor with me. I was hoping we would meet in the tournament finals, but sadly I wasn't strong enough. I'm really looking forward to playing against you guys again. I hope I can come visit you in St. Petersburg, or perhaps you can come visit us in Finland! Also, you should really try to participate in some big European tournament, because I think you have the skill to win. Finally, goga: I hope you like the shirt, and thanks for the chocolate!

OksikFury & Sphynx - I wanted to save my sweetest thanks for the last. You gave us a royal welcome, and truly made the weekend something to remember! You guided us, fed us, gave us a place to sleep and coffee! And pelmeni, thanks for those! If you want to come to Finland, let us know and we'll try our best to be as hospitable as you were to us! And perhaps we can play more Streets of Rage 2! :)

And finally, to all our Russian friends: Спасибо! (I hope I got that right)

EDIT: Groza, sorry for not remembering your nick at first!
