CX писал(а): After we got the heads up from a surprising loketest of KOF 2002 UM (now dubbed in Chinese as Road of Revenge), yours truly and Mystic Monkey Guru decided to cover up this event. As we arrived, we found out that the core game it’s exactly as the PS2 version of the title, however, it does have included the EX characters that are unlockable in the console version (Takuma, Kensou and Robert). There are no apparent changes from the console port to the arcade one, have exactly the same stages (none of the ones displayed in Dr. Neogeo blog), same music, same characters and of course, no bosses selectable (yes, no normal or Nightmare Geese either).
As the matches progressed, an assistant (presumably from SNK-P) was distributing feedback sheets to the players asking mainly 6 questions regarding favorite characters, suggestions about the interface, a rating from 1 to 5, reporting bugs or broken stuff and if you would considering having a further revision of the game if necessary.
I submitted some of the already known problems like Hinako’s infinite and then some Japanese men approached me with my struggles in understanding Chinese… and happened to be members of SNK-P that were monitoring the loketest, including Dr. Neogeo himself, so, I asked if he could grant me a small, informal interview about this title.
Interview
VV: First of all, thank you for accepting this impromptu interview, but sure this event caught us a bit of surprise, a pleasant surprise, I might add.
DrNG: Well, this is because we wanted to have a discrete loketest about this game, as you might noticed, nothing has been posted either in my blog or another official source of SNK-P until the announcement of the Chinese website of the events in Hong Kong and here in Guangzhou.
VV: So, now that it’s official that an arcade version of 2002UM it’s coming, should also be considered to be on another online service like XBL or PSN?
DrNG: At the moment, we are still thinking about it.
VV: How come this title has been dubbed as “Road of Revenge” and not as Unlimited Match?
DrNG: Because we are still testing out whether this game could be exactly as the PS2 version of UM or have other drastic changes that would make it completely different, everything will depends of the public reaction of these loketests.
VV: So, shall we consider this game as an unfinished version?
DrNG: Probably, probably not, as I said, depends of the feedback given, if most players consider this version optimal then it won’t be necessary another revision.
VV: What are your thoughts or releasing 2002UM/RoR with KOFXII in the same season? Do you think it might come into a clash in between those games?
DrNG: I don’t think so, XII has a completely different gameplay and graphics, a totally new game, while 2002UM/RoR it’s more focused in players that still go for the classic titles of KOF, of course, offering more balance and fun.
