You may have heard by now, but over the weekend a new title in the versus series of games called Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was announced at the PlayStation Experience. The two companies have joined forces once again to answer the question everyone has been asking as of late: When's Mahvel?
Information about the game continues to trickle in, and Famitsu's recent interview with some of the MvCI developers adds to that.
Though the interview was conducted entirely in Japanese, EventHubs' own Nicholas "MajinTenshinhan" Taylor has provided us with the English translation. In it, we learn that Mega Man X's appearance in the game's initial announcement trailer was brought about due to his immense popularity in the west.
Additionally, the devs note that the game's roster is almost entirely figured out, talk further about the game's cinematic story mode, and more.
After the jump, you'll find the fully translated preface from Famitsu, as well as the interview questions/answers.
The developers explained to Famitsu that the reason the game is entitled Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite instead of Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is two-fold - it's partly because they're putting a cinematic story mode into the game which is set to answer the question "Why have the worlds of Marvel and Capcom come together in this game series?", and also because the "Infinity Stones" of Marvel lore play an important part in the game.
But beyond those two reasons, they also wanted to highlight that the game holds infinite possibilities for the players, and thought that making the word "Infinite" the main theme of the game would be fitting. It was also noted that putting a "4" in a game title might make it harder for new players to get into.Famitsu:
By bringing Marvel and Capcom characters together, are there any parts you feel have been strengthened this time around, or any things you've cast aside from previous titles?Developers:
In a way, we've cast aside the entire game system. After doing so, we thought "What is it that makes these games good, exactly?" and decided to use that in developing it from the ground up instead of adding on to what was already there.Famitsu:
How about character choices?Developers:
There are so many characters in the comics and movies that it was pretty difficult.
That said, we can't just use old characters we've already had in, but must look to the future as well. Last time when we were developing the game, the Avengers films hadn't been made yet.
Of course, we also get a lot of requests for "I want this character", so we can't entirely throw the past away, either. Right now, the roster is almost entirely decided upon, though.
The reason we showed off Mega Man X in our first trailer is because of his immense western popularity, and in our surveys he'd been up at the very top. We work hard to honor our fan's requests.Famitsu:
What made you want to develop a cinematic story mode?Developers:
The impact of the Avengers film franchise has been huge. All these heroes operate in the same world. So with that, the expectations for the story grow larger. That's the era we're currently in, I think.
Also, since it's not an arcade game but for home use only, that does a lot, too.
Iron Man and Captain Marvel, who are currently opposed in the comics, are co-operating in our trailer. That should make fans think "What happened between them to bring this about?" and give expectations for the story. Captain Marvel also has an upcoming movie.Famitsu:
Finally, When did this project start?Developers:
We can't give you concrete details about that. However, we've been fine-tuning it for a while now, so please look forward to it.Источник
